Surviving the Impossible

When I hear the word hero I think of someone who has gone through unbearable times but never gave up. They worked through the tough times and made a huge impact on peoples' lives. One of the main heros I think of is J.R. Martinez. J.R. is a veteran. While he was in the United States Army he suffered from severe burns to over forty percent of his body. He lost one ear and has many scars of his face from this accident. Most people who would go through this would be ashamed of the way they looked but not J.R. He has become a motivational speaker and was the winner of Dancing With the Stars season 13. This man is one of the best definitions of a hero. No matter what obstacles life threw at him, he made it the best. This man is an inspiration to all the people that think lowly of themselves or think they aren't good enough. I will always look up J.R. Martinez.

  1. This is very inspiring. No matter what happened to him, he kept pushing along. He has the true potential of a hero.

  3. I enjoyed the way you put a real person that has truly been through the "Ringer". I really enjoyed your paragraph.

  4. Seriously!!
A hero doesn't have to be the fictional guy in a comic book wearing man tights! There are heroes among us!! Although J.R. Martinez is a great hero and a great role-model, I feel that other men and women that have endured similar circumstances haven't gotten the same kind of support and recognition that he did. I am glad that America opened her eyes for a moment to see the hero shining through J.R. Martinez's skin, but I wish that we would recognize all heroes (like him) in a similar way.
Very good Kylie. It was short, sweet, and to the point. I am impressed at how you still got your point across in a mature, organized, and strong manner although it was just that (short, sweet, and to the point). Plus, that is a very good hero choice. He certainly is admirable.

  5. It's cool that someone can take their past experiences as a true hero and go out and speak to people to help them find the hero within. J.R. really is a true hero!
