Medically speaking, love has been compared to use of amphetamines. Love releases chemicals in our brain that invoke physical responses throughout our bodies. When you're in love your mood is elevated, you are able to sleep better, and you generally have a positive outlook on life. Being in love makes going to work or school easier, your problems generally appear insignificant, and interacting with others is typically more pleasant.
When you are interested in someone but your not sure how they feel about you "a crush" you experience some anxiety over the situation. A crush can make a person become irrational and obsessive. Many criminal stalking cases begin as a simple "crush" where the individual feels such strong emotions for someone, they begin conducting themselves in disturbing manners. When asked about the reason he attempted to assassinate President Reagan, John Hinkley stated it was to impress actress Jodie Foster because he loved her so deeply.
The Trojan War was, supposedly fought over the love of Helen. Romeo and Juliet committed suicide because of they're forbidden love. A man will step in front of a bullet for the love of a woman. It has been said that love is the emotion closest to insanity. Love makes people happy, confident, brave, sad, irrational, and obsessive. Every person needs the emotional attachment to another.
Love is unavoidable because from birth we crave the love of those we first encounter. Like a drug addict, we continue to search for our next "fix" of love, no matter how bad the last experience with love hurt us. If love is not the strongest, and sometimes the most dangerous, drug addiction than I really don't know what is.
I agree that when you are in love your problems seem insignificant, and talking to groups of people is more pleasant.
