An Important Life Lesson

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
- John F. Kennedy

John F. Kennedy said these famous words at his 1961 inauguration. In his speech he talked about how great the United States is, and that it is our responsibility to make it better. He knew that to lead,he had to serve. Selflessness should always be above selfishness. He stressed that helping others is more important than personal gain. We should be servants, not receivers. As president, Kennedy had to look beyond what the country could do for him, and look for what he could do for his country. I believe we should do this everyday. Instead of wondering what other people can do for us today, we should ask if there is anything we can do for someone else. John F. Kennedy put his country before himself... we should learn to put others before ourselves. This quote was relevant in 1961, and is still relevant in 2009.

  1. This is an inspiring quote to the politicians who are leading this country. They need to look back and see other quotes like these that came from other inspiring leaders like JFK. This quote is pretty much what the US began as.

  2. I agree with you Melanie. However, this is an inspiring quote to everyone, not just politicians. We all need to be a little less selfish.

  3. This quote is what America needs to look at today to figure out the answer to their "problems". If we all need a change then it is up to all of us to make it happen.
