Charles
Dickens created Mr. Pickwick for the book The Pickwick Papers, which became on
of my favorite book, making Mr. Pickwick my favorite character I have ever
encountered in a novel. Mr. Pickwick is a plump middle-aged gentleman that
lived in the 1800’s; he was a gentleman and an esquire. I find humor in him
because there isn’t anything that he does that goes well with him. In many
occasions Mr. Pickwick gets into troubles by saying things with double
meanings, everything he said would be taken in the wrong way. Once as he was
talking to his maidservant about hiring a manservant, he said it in a way that
his maidservant thought that he was purposing! I connect with Mr. Pickwick
because he isn’t perfect, there is never a time when he isn’t running into
issues. He isn’t a hero, but he is a normal human with abnormal problems that
are solved with ingenuity. The mischief that he and his companions have are
humorous, his manservant once wrote a valentine to the one he loved, and not
wanted to reveal his identity, signed the letter with his master’s name! Mr.
Pickwick is a humble and joyful man, enjoying everything that he does. He
displays something rare in humanity now; he welcomes strangers and forgives
everyone that he encounters. He is a great example of what a human should be,
even if he is fictional. The world would be a great place if we were all
Pickwinians.
