Love is a Sacrifice

Prisoner of love, crazy little thing called love, lost in love, endless love and love shack are just a few of the many examples of the way love is depicted in music.  But what does love actually mean?  According to Romeo and Juliet love means the ultimate sacrifice for the companionship of another human being.  Of course, drinking poison and stabbing oneself to death for love is a bit extreme, even in today’s society.

Love is the fuel that drives humanity to be its greatest, whether it be the love of an idea, the love of a country, the love of a God, or the love of a soul mate.  Soldiers go to war and sacrifice their lives for the love of their country and the protection of the people that they love. Scientists such as Albert Einstein were driven by their love of physics and mathematics to make great discoveries. Love is sacrifice and willingness to go to the ends of the earth for the love of one another. An example of this form of love is my mother’s mission trips to the country of India. The love she shows for orphans and villagers as she spreads the word of Jesus Christ is one of the best examples of sacrificial love for others.
Love can be a small tingle inside your stomach or a complete and utter explosion of all of your feelings. It can be between siblings, a father and son playing catch, or your first “love” in elementary school. Although love can be splendid, it also has its curses. To love is the greatest gift to humanity with often dangerous and unexpected consequences. Like a newly developed drug, it can cure what ails the heart but has many potential side effects. Love is a battlefield full of triumphs, victories, injuries and miseries.

  1. You are so right about what you say about how love drives humanity and is truly the greatest gift. I like all that you say love is. That was amazing!
