The Opinions Of A Semi-Depressed Teenage Boy

Who is a hero? I will answer the question with another question, who isn't a hero? In other posts people say the first thing that comes to mind are the men in suits created by Marvel. Just in all other aspects, T.V.has ruined the possibilities and imaginations of what can be. I do not believe in men in suits that come to save the day. I believe that a hero is someone who is proud of their opinions, someone who can defend others, someone who will admit defeat. What i am saying is a cliche, it also what people expect to read, and that is okay. I know that everyone has a hero in themselves somewhere, and for that reason I don't think role models should be condoned. I think if people spend half the time trying to find the good in themselves instead of trying to be someone they are not, everyone would be happier. These are nothing but the opinions of a semi-depressed teenage boy. That is what I believe a hero is, and I hope everyone can find their own.

The Definition of A Hero

We used to feel so small, stretching our heads back to the fullest extent just to peer into a grown up’s eyes. Those eyes held wisdom, knew perfection, could jump all the way to the moon and back. They were our heroes. But as we grew older and wiser ourselves, our perspectives shifted, and we saw the faults of ones older than us. So though our young eyes were so easily able to distinguish a hero, who is to say now exactly what a hero is? Even the most unlikely of people can be considered a hero through one person’s eyes. So though no exact definition can be made, to me, a hero is someone who puts other people before him or herself. It is someone who is humble and never proud; someone who tries their best to never judge others, but helps them regardless of their deeds and words. A hero can be someone who overcame struggles and never lost hope; someone who encouraged others when he or she was losing hope him or herself. Someone who takes on a challenge with all that they have, even when they didn’t ask for the responsibility to be placed upon them. To me, a hero is not someone that feels the need to prove themselves to others, but someone that feels the need to prove to themselves what they can accomplish. My personal heroes are my family and friends that have battled or are battling cancer, those of which are by far the bravest people that I have ever met. Their drive and determination are admirable, and are qualities that I hope that I would have if faced with the same situation. In my opinion, one's perserverance and altruism is what truly makes someone a hero.

An Inspirational Hero

A hero can be defined as someone who inspires in his everyday life with his selfless ways. Grounded firmly in what he knows is right, a hero would begin to leave his mark at earliest ages of his life. He would have to be well equipped with the knowledge he needs to succeed at whatever he does. His knowledge and leadership would help him to be wise and strong. So, when troubles arise, he will have the will to overcome. Most importantly, his driving force or passion would be the respect that he has for the people around him. Abraham Lincoln once said, “ If you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” So, my hero would not be one to flaunt his strengths. My hero is the ultimate hero-- Jesus Christ. Jesus is the light. He has inspired and paved the way for not just me, but billions of people. It was out of his eternal love for us that he died on the cross to forgive us for our sins. Obviously, Jesus was different from what an everyday hero would be. He is all divine, all powerful, and perfect, but he showed us what it is like to be a hero. He showed us that the legacy we leave behind has the power to change lives.

The Ultimate Hero

When the word hero is said, many think of  famous fictional characters with superpowers. Yet when you look up the word hero the definition is nothing like that at all. I believe that Jesus Christ is the ultimate hero. When the world was dark and full of hatred he came to the rescue. He paid the price for our sins and gave his life for us. He went through the most excrutiatingly painful death so that we, sinners, could be forgiven. He had more bravery than I could even imagine. The way he lived his life here on earth was heroic. He showed care and compassion to the outcasts, the beggars and even the cheaters and liars. That takes a true hero to care about every single person every day. He is the one true hero because he did not have one bit of pride or arrogance about anything he did or accomplished. I know I cannot ever even come close to being the hero Jesus was, but I can get closer and closer every day when he is my example.

Real Heroes Do Not Fly

According to Webster, a hero would be defined as a person of distinguished courage or ability. They are known for the great feats they have accomplished or the good deeds they have done. When thinking of a hero, most people see a man in a cape and tights flying around a busy city saving innocent people from the stereotypical “bad guy”. I would like to think that anyone has the potential to be a hero, no powers or capes included. But just as much as someone has the potential to be a hero, they have the ability to be a bad guy. There is one characteristic that separates the two: The willingness to put other’s needs above your own and make sacrifices so innocent people can live safely. A hero not only protects the people he knows, but he protects everyone.

Contrary to belief, heroes are only human and, therefore, make mistakes. A hero may be vain, curious, or just plain lazy. This is their fatal flaw, as every hero has one. Their fatal flaw is usually what hinders or defeats the hero in reaching his or her goal. Also, the hero himself usually creates his worst enemy. As was evident in The Odyssey, Odysseus created his own worst enemy by claiming that it was he, himself, who defeated Troy without any recognition towards Poseidon for his help. To punish Odysseus, Poseidon prolongs his journey home by setting many obstacles in his path.

Overall, heroes in my definition are only noble human beings who are willing to sacrifice for others to protect the innocent. Heroes can be found among us. Our servicemen are great examples of everyday heroes because they are willing to lay down their lives so that us, as Americans, can enjoy the freedom that few other countries can even begin to know.

No Capes Required

Is a hero someone who is brave, smart, or always saves the day? Sometimes heroes are like that, but not always. Some heroes save the day by giving their lives, some by giving their time and money, others by giving their love or kindness. A hero to me is someone who is kind, nice and helps someone in need. We have soldiers who go across oceans just to protect our country's freedom, they are the big heroes around here. To a homeless person, a hero might be someone who gave them a meal. The recent tragedy in Tucson, Arizona is a great example of how everyday heroes do not need capes. The news has reported that while the gunman tried to reload his gun, some people there jumped on him. This brave act may have saved the lives of many people. To the families of those who came out of the shooting alive, these people have forever changed their lives. They may have been spared the devastation that the victims' families are feeling right now. A hero needs no cape to feed the hungry, comfort the lonely, or save the lives of total strangers. We can all make the choice to be a hero in our everyday lives, opportunities are all around us.

Capes, Tights, and Underwear

In movies, books, legends, and even bedtime stories (pretty much everywhere,) heroes are normally portrayed as wearing underwear over tights with long capes with super powers to die for and a secret identity. Let's face it. There is no such thing as flying humans, lightening speed, mind readers, X-ray vision, or super strength, yet this world is not comepletely hero free. Heroes are just around every corner without tights, capes, and visible underwear. Superhuman powers aren't required to be a hero. Anyone who is kind, corageous, courteous, thoughtful, or selfless has the potential to be a hero. A hero could be someone who does something as simple as a firefighter getting a cat from a tree or something as big as a doctor performing life saving surgery on a patient. I think my brother is an everyday hero. He is an EMT so he works on an ambulance and rushes to save people everyday. I'm sure a lot of families are thankful because if it weren't for him, their loved one may have not survived. A hero is not really what the stories, legends, movies, and books symbolize it as. It is making a difference, no matter how small, that impacts a person's life.

The Ultimate Hero

When most people hear the word "hero" they immediately think of fictional characters such as Superman, Batman, or Spider-man. People usually imagine flying men with capes and super-strength. I personally believe that a hero can be anyone that will go to extremes to help other people and shows unbelievable bravery. But they do not always have to show bravery; they can be someone that preforms extraordinary tasks daily to save lives. I think there are many different types of heroes. A hero will put other people's needs first and are remarkably selfless. Excellent examples of heroes would be firemen, policemen, and doctors. Also, heroes can be average, everyday people that are only heroes to certain people. Such as a father to a son, a teacher to a student, or an older sibling to a younger sibling. These people are always there to give help when it is needed and can have a huge impact on one's life. But to me, the ultimate hero is a soldier because they not only risk their lives everyday, but they also have to leave their families and friends to move to a foreign country. This sacrifice shows just how much other peoples lives mean to them, and how much they are willing to give up to save and protect the people of their country. They know that they are putting their lives in danger at all times. They are not forced to do what they do, but simply volunteer to put their lives at risk, with no knowledge of when they will return to their safe home, if they return at all. Soldiers, to me, are the epitome of heroes because of all of their selflessness, courage, and willingness to die for others. No matter who you are; a policeman, firefighter, doctor, or simply a teacher, you can be a hero by making an impact on someone's life.

Heroes Around the Corner

My definition of a hero is someone who is self sacrificing; who puts other’s needs before his own, without regard for his own safety or personal recognition. Heroes come in many shapes and sizes. They can be someone like a teacher going above and beyond for their students, maybe a fireman who rushes into a burning house to save a child, or maybe someone who’s willing to give time to get groceries for someone that is unable to do these tasks on their own. Heroes don’t have to be people in tights and a cape like superman. It could be a doctor who finds cures to save lives. The everyday heroes don’t have to have a super power like being able to run “faster than a speeding bullet.” People can save lives without these powers. They just need to be kind and able to encourage and inspire. When no hope is left they are still standing there supporting you and giving you encouragement. Sometimes the hero you get isn’t always going to be the hero you expect or expected. A hero could be right around the corner and you might not know it. Heroes are wonderful people inspiring, saving, and helping those in need.

Not always Superman

When you think of a hero and someone asks you to define it in your own words, it is kind of difficult to come up with something, because a hero could be so many things. The Webster definition of a hero is a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. I personally do not think a hero is always just someone who is brave or noble. To be a hero you don’t have to wear tights, have a cape, or have superpowers. A hero could be an everyday person like you and I. Whether you are doing something for a city, flying through the air like Superman to fight off evil villains, or doing something for just one person, like sticking up for a classmate who is being picked on you could very well be a hero. You could also be a hero by simply just being a friend to someone and cheering them up when they are down. All those things, whether big or small, could make you a hero in someone’s eyes. A hero is usually very selfless, someone who does stuff for other people without wanting anything in return. To be a hero they must have a lot of love in their heart. The love gives them the inspiration to do a good deed. Their courage gives them the strength and determination to actually make a difference. So whether you are a firefighter, policeman, teacher, a superhero, or simply just a friend you have the power to make a difference and to be a hero.

What a Hero Means to Me

According to the dictionary, a hero is a person especially a man, admired for courage, nobility, etc. My definition of the word hero is someone who is courageous, selfless, and is extremely brave. A hero is someone who everyone looks up to and wants to be like. When we were younger, we looked up to and thought that comical heroes were our heroes. But as we grew older we began to understand that a hero is someone who is greater than superman and all the other super heroes. We began to realize that the heroes in our lives are the people that have impacted and affected our daily lives. Heroes will drop everything that they are doing and will aid all the people around them. They can be anyone, not just someone special or someone who has special skills. Just recently, there was a shooting in Tucson, Arizona, at a "Congress on Your Corner" event. Approximately 19 innocent people were wounded, and 6 of them were killed. Of the 19, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head. The gunman was tackled as he attempted to reload his firearm. Two men and a woman were able to hold him down until the police came. One of the men was already wounded, but he still held the man down. Many people also aided the injured and wounded, including Congresswoman Giffords. One of her interns came to the Congresswoman’s aid, and helped save her life until they took her to the hospital. If it was not for this intern, the Congresswoman would not be alive. These everyday people were worried more about the safety of others and their acts helped save many more lives. These common citizens in Tucson risked their safety to help others. I would classify them as heroes.

The Heroes Who Wear No Costumes Nor Possess Super Powers

In "The Amazing Spider-Man" (Vol. 2) #36, it reflects the real-life events of September 11, 2001. Joseph Michael Straczynski, also know as the author of "The Amazing Spider-Man," wrote this issue of his comic, "But with our costumes and our powers we are writ small by the true heroes. Those who face fire without fear or armor. Those who step into the darkness without assurances of ever walking out again, because they know there are others waiting in the dark. Awaiting salvation. Awaiting word. Awaiting justice. Ordinary men. Ordinary women." Spider-man comes to realize that not all heroes possess great powers. People like police officers, fire fighters, and military personnel do not have to wear costumes or posses super powers to be a hero. In my book, people who protect our safety for to risk theirs are definitely heroes! One who lays down his or her own safety without the consult of their own protection is my definition of a hero. Someone who helps without anticipating anything in return, just as Spider-Man had come to recognize, displays qualities of a hero. Their gestures might be immense, undersized, thoughtful, or not; it does not make them any less of a hero.

Dreams

There are tons of quotes in the world, but the one I chose is from “The X Files”. The quote goes like this “Dreams are answers to questions we haven’t yet figured out how to answer”.When you read the quote you feel as if you have already read it before. This is true to me because I feel as if everything in the world is a dream, and that we have lived it before. We live our lives, yes, but we don't know the answers to it. It's like a dream when you see yourself in them, but you remember nothing of them. I think that means there is turning point in our lives that is about happen, but we are not ment to change it. Take deja vu for example, when you come out of a dream, but you don't remember it . Then when your doing something all of sudden you feel as if you have already done it. That is the message I think this quote is trying say. We have these dreams in order to prepare us for something later on in life. Like a death, marriage, jobs, or anything else. It is just answering our question ahead time before we even realize the question we are trying to ask.

Quincy's quote blog

This quote is from Dr. Seuss, "You are you, now isn't that pleasant?"I thought this was meaningful because it is saying you are yourself and you should be satisfied with the fact. This really meant something to me because it brought the attention of the fact that I need to be happy with who I am. This made me think, maybe I should not try to be someone I am not and just be myself. This quote corresponds with the other one, " Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." It all has to deal with friendship in my opinion. This one is saying that you need to be yourself because those who do not like you for who you are should not matter to you and the people who matter to you should not care about how you are. I thought these two quotes really made sense together and had a really good message. I know it really affected me. I think it should affect you if you truly understand what they mean.

John 1:3

John 1:3. "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." This is my favorite Bible verse in the entire world. This verse could mean many different things to different people. To me, this is saying God is everything. He also made everything. It makes me wonder how some people can not believe in him. I mean how do they think we got here? God put everyone on this Earth for a reason. I think it is awesome how God made all this from scratch. He also did all of this then sent his own son to die for us. Then some people just put other things before him. When he put his son to die for us. I do know, that now aand forever I will serve our amazing god.
