Perseverance Gives Me Comfort

There are many things that can overwhelm a person at any given time. Whether that be school, work, family, or anything that causes stress. One thing that I find comfort in is is persevering. When I get stressed out to the point where I want to rip my skin off, I remind myself that life isn't always easy. To get, you have to give; whatever you put into something, you're nine times out of ten going to get what you gave. Time's most successful people didn't get to their peak of performance because they didn't do their homework, they didn't study, and they didn't do their duties. They got there because they never gave up. Like Wang Lung finds comfort in his land, I find comfort in knowing that no matter what, if I persevere, nothing bad is going to happen. The world is constantly going to throw curve balls toward you, and you have to be ready to swing at them with the best of your ability. No pain, no gain. As Americans, we should have a tremendous amount of perseverance, due to the fact that we are free to be whatever we want to be. As cheesy as it sounds, if you really wanted to, you could change the world.

Amazing Friends

When I first read the rubric, the idea that immediately came to mind when I thought of some one or something that gives me security and peace was my friends. My friends have always been there for me and I will always be there for them. When you think of the qualities that a friend should possess, security and peace are right there at the top. I know that when I am having a bad day, I can always count on my friends to cheer me up. My friends can always get a smile out of me and make me laugh. I can always count on them to listen when I just need to get some things off my chest. They always give me great advice when I look to them for an opinion on what I should do in different situations. Wang Lung and I have totally different ideas when it comes to something that gives you security and peace.   In my case , it's a group of people and in his, it is land. I have been truly blessed with amazing friends. My current group of friends is the most loyal and trustworthy group of friends I have ever had. When we get together, we have such a good time and enjoy each others company so much, that we cannot wait to hangout again.  My friends are amazing and I do not know what I would do without them.  The valuable relationships I share with my friends provide me with a deep sense of security and peace.

The Value of Family

      A constant in my life is my family. Like Wang Lung's land, my family is always there, and they are the most important thing in my life. My relationship with my family is similar to Wang Lung's relationship with his land. Wang Lung seeks comfort in his land and tends to feel empty without it, as I also seek comfort and peace in my family and have a tendency to feel lost and hopeless without them. My family gives me a sense of security because no matter what I might say or do, they will still forgive me. I can always count on them. My friends mean a lot to me as well. However, friends unfortunately come and go as time and opportunities pass by. A family relationship although, can never be broken. Nothing in the world can change the fact that my family and I are related and that we share a background together. We naturally have an instinctive love and feeling of reliability for each other. My family consists of people who I can always depend on no matter what the circumstances. They will always be apart of me, and will always be there for me throughout my life. My family is what's most valuable to me.

Music is My Everything

Music

Most everyone has something that gives them a sense of security and peace. For Wang Lung, it is his land. For a lot of people it is God, or their parents. In my case, it is my music. I have absolutely no idea what I would do without my music. It’s the one thing I can count on no matter what. It has, is, and will always be there for me. I don’t have to worry about it getting mad at me, or us fighting. It’s the one thing in my life that’s guaranteed to be drama free, 24/7. It never puts me in a bum mood. If anything, it’s sure to cheer me up! It’s there no matter what kind of mood I’m in, and won’t yell or fuss.

Counting on Christ

One thing that has always been there for me, one thing that has never once failed me or left my side in times of trouble, is Christ. I accepted him in my life when in was only a kid, but it was the best decicison I have ever made. Friends always come and go and sometimes family can be a bit of an issue, but Christ is always there, for anyone. He has been my constant, such as the land for Wand Lung. He is something I can count on and I know will always be there. I thingk that is how Wang Lung feels about his land. His land was one thing thst has stayed with him. Through out the famine, floods, and more to come, it has always been there. He will always have the land through out any hardships he and his family face. Ths is how I feel about Christ. He is something I can count on. He is something everyone can count on. Christ is my constant, my security, my peace, most valueable to me. What's yours?

Never Left My Side

Everyone has a constant in their life that makes them feel comforted, joyous, and safe. When you're having a stressful day and just want to break down, everyone has that certain thing they go to. It may be a person, a object, or even a quote. Each and every person just has something to comfort them. In The Good Earth, Wang Lung had a constant in his life. He went from being a poor farmer to a rich man. In the end he never gave up his land. No matter where he was in his life he never lost his land. He kept it and always had the land to rely on and come back to. My constant in life would have to be my mother. I know we disagree on mostly everything and I don't always agree with what she does but I know she will always be there. I have experienced her trustworthiness more than ever this year. Beginning high school has been a roller coaster for me. I have been introduced to situations I've never been in before. My mom always gives the best advice and sticks by my side. We argue all the time but in the end we always end up making up. I know she just does what she thinks is best because she is always expressing her love for me. I realize most teenage girls don't have a mom to comfort them and turn to. As I become older I realize the privilege it is to have a mom that really does love and care about me.There isn't a day that goes by where I don't thank God for what he has blessed me with.

My Dad

Most kids these days think their cellphones  are something they can count on when they get home. Not me, my dad is someone I can count on. I feel safe when I am around him. He stays on me pretty hard about grades and sports. I always know that in the end he will protect my siblings and I. He gives me peace by protecting me so I have nothing to worry about. He is constantly there for me day in, and day out. My dad is the type of person that will never give up on you. This is why I feel so secure around him. He will be the first to criticize, but in return he will be the first to pat you on the back and tell you good job. My dad is the most valuable thing to me. I do not know what I would do without him. I love you Dad.

My Constant Family

We all have that one thing in life that we just can not live without. In my life that thing is my family. Everyday I wake up and thank God for my family. Honestly, I do not know where I would be without my family. When common people think of family they think mostly of their mom, dad, and siblings in their household. But when I think of family, I think of those people who have stuck by my side through my hardest points in life. I think of the people who care and want the best for me. I truly could not make it through the day without my family and their support. My blood family is crazy and by their mistakes I learn and by my mistakes they teach. At points I can not stand my family. When they correct me it means they love me, when they make me mad it's because they did not mean to, and they love because I am me. Throughout the years my family has taught me so much and has also got me through so much. I can not exactly explain how or why I love them so much. But looking back on my life it shows that my family will never leave me. I have come to realize that thinking about my family gives me a since of peace and security because no matter what I do or where I go, I know I will always be accepted by them. I love my family and I count on them loving me back.

Music in Me

         Ever since I was little, one thing has always been constant-my love for music. Whenever I would wake up from a bad dream, I would run to my mom and beg her to sing me to sleep. There was one small problem though, if my mom would sing to me any typical nursery rhyme, I would sing along with her. She ended up singing to me in French to get me to calm down and go back to sleep. From then on music was a huge part of my life. When I was in fourth grade, my mom enrolled me in the Livingston Parish Children's Chorus. I had just started public school and was trying to find where a I fit in because I was missing my old friends at private school. By being in choir I found myself and a true love for music. I then joined band in junior high and started playing the flute. Ever since then I look forward to going to band class to play music with others. If I've had a really bad day, all I have to do is pick up my flute and start to play. Like magic all my problems go away. Knowing I have a way to escape everything for just a few hours, I feel happier. My music is what I can't live without.

Field of Dreams

Through the long stressful days may people find security in one favorite person, thing,or place. When everything feels like its to much to handle or I just need a break I find the best place for me to be is the baseball field. Everything seems to disappear when I touch the field. Many things will leave when things get hard but when  being on the field playing baseball is like facing all the problems that have happened. When I hit the ball I'm able to take all of the frustration out on the ball instead of taking it out on someone. Being on the baseball field teaches me so many life lessons that even though you make a mistake in the field there is always a chance to fix it just like in life. No matter how the day has been I can look forward to being on the baseball field and enjoying the time I have away from all the problems. Baseball also shows me that I'm never alone that I have eight other brothers on the field with me. No mater what is going on I can look to them to pick me up when I'm down. Though days may be tough no matter how old I get the place for me to feel as if nothing is wrong and all my troubles are lifted will forever be the baseball field.

In the Night with No One but You

       To Wang Lung, the earth is his constant. It is what keeps him alive and what brings him peace. It gives him security. In this same way, I see my mother. Always there for me, my ever-faithful mama makes sure I have what I need, even when I do not exactly "need" it. It does not matter to her if I am wrong or right, if I am weak or strong. She always loves me the same way every time. Some points in life can feel like a dark, inescapable night. My mother is always the first one there to catch me before I trip in the dark, always there to shine a light where she sees fit. Even though sometimes as children we find this protective parental behavior irritating, I personally realize that it is not something parents do for fun. These actions are taken to protect us and to make sure we prosper as people. I love my mother with all of who I am, and I am so thankful that I can call her my constant. 

Faith and God

Wang Lung feels as if he can't live without his land. Some people, not only Chinese, but people who have nothing else to depend on would agree. It takes a lot of courage to leave things in the hands of God, trusting that He will take care of everything. Faith requires you to belive deeply. You must feel as if you don't have anything else. I know I couldn't live without my faith. I really couldn't live without my breath. There are moments when things take my breath away, but I get it back obviously or I wouldn't be here. For some people, faith is just something they say they have to go through life, but for me its different. I do need it to go through life, but it gives me something to live for. I can live to serve God and obey His will. When God's with me, I know that I have security around me!

She Loved Me Through It

Often times, we have the nature, as human beings, to get caught up in petty situations. No matter race, sex, or culture, people will eventually stray from what they know is right. In the book, The Good Earth, Wang Lung goes from being a poor farmer to a wealthy land owner. With this new wealth and a stronger sense of pride, Wang Lung's character begins to change. Wang Lung often falls victim to his desires, which allows for only temporary happiness. Wang Lung's only true happiness comes from the land which is a constant in his life. No matter how bad his fortune, Wang Lung can always rely on the land.

The one thing in my life that is a constant is my mother. My entrance into high school has been a rough one for not only myself, but also for my family. The trials and tribulations of high school have made me realize how great my mother is to me. When everyone else turned their back on me, my mother was there. Unlike some friends, my mom not only celebrated with me through the joyous times, but she also comforted me through my lowest points. No matter what I'm dealing with in my life, I know I can always turn to my mother for comfort and advice. She might not always tell me what I want to hear but she is always looking out for my best interest. Like Wang Lung, I do not always realize when I am turning my back on the one constant in my life. It takes complications before Wang Lung truly realizes what treasure he holds in the land. I sometimes take my mother for granted by not showing my gratitude for her constant support, even though I know in my heart that I would not be half the person I am now without her. I can credit the person I am today to the person who has shaped my character for the past fifteen years, and that could be none other than my mother.

My Reliable Parents

          My parents are always there for me like Wang Lung's land is for him. He can always count on his land to be there when he needs to think. I can always count my parents to be there when I need to sort out my crazy thoughts too. They always have encouraging words for me, when I need them, and that gives me peace because I know that they believe in me. My parents are something that will always be a constant in my life, for I will always be able to go to them for help. They also give me a sense of security. I know that, no matter what, they will never desert me, even though they might want to sometimes.
          So my parents are just as valuable to me, as Wang Lung's land is to him. I sometimes drift away from them, like Wang and his land, but after the arguing my parents are still right there. Both my parents and the land are something Wang and I are able to count on and need. Without his land, Wang would never be able to stay true to who he is, and without my parents, neither would I.         

My Family

Many things enter and leave my life all the time and will continue to for the rest of my life.  I may have friends that I feel I cannot live without, but who’s to say we will always be friends.  One thing I know without a shadow of a doubt is that my family will always be in my life no matter the circumstances.  Each and every day I can count on them to be there to help me through what I am going through.  Even if I do not always succeed my family will support me all the way.  They provide for me all the time in the best ways they can.  Also, their guidance helps me to make better decisions for my life.  When I need help I can always turn to them anytime and know they will give it to me.  Besides just providing for me they also love me, care about me, and spend time with me.  My family is very valuable to me and I could not live without them.  Life may change but I know I can count on them to be there every step of the way.  Their presence gives me the security and peace to always keep trying and do my best.
