Sense of Security
The “The Good Earth” tells the tale of Wang Lung whom and his love for the land on which he lived and farmed his nearly his whole life.  The land always gave him a sense of security, and he knew it would always be there for him and his family long after he was gone. Because of terrible famine, Wang was forced to sell everything and move his family for the city to avoid starvation.  However, Wang refused to sell his land.    For Wang, the land provided hope for a brighter future after the terrible famine passed.
Similar to Wang’s land, my mom provides me with a sense of security and constancy. She always gives me hope and guides me to a better future. We have and will get through anything together. She always is willing to go the distance for me. She is such a big part of my life that I know for certain if she wasn’t around I wouldn’t be able to function.
During the period when Wang is separated from his land, he feels profound emptiness.  Wang feels as if his land is calling for him.  Although I am never really physically separated from my mom, when we argue I feel the same sense of emptiness.  Even when we are ignoring each other, I know we still love each other and I can always count on her just as Wang knew his land would be waiting for him.  As Wang reunited with the land, so do I with my mother after every trying situation we face.
