The Pressure's On!

Spencer Hastings is one of the four main characters in The Pretty Little Liars. Spencer is a determined teenager with high expectations to achieve and struggling to be perfect at everything.  In The Pretty Little Liars, Spencer goes to extremes such as turning in her sister’s essay as her own. She felt that she had too much on her plate, yet she could not give up her image of perfection. At first, all is well, and she is progressing in her school work and extracurricular activities. By the end of the story, however, the guilt sinks in, leaving Spencer with no choice but to confess. Everyone is truly shocked when she admits that it was not her paper. Spencer punishes herself more harshly than what her original punishment was. I know what it is like to let people who have trusted me down and can see why she was so hard on herself. It is difficult to build up a self image for yourself and have it ruined by one mistake. I admire Spencer for owning up to her mistakes. She is my favorite literary character due to her responsibility and her determination. For Spencer Hastings, the pressure was on. Unfortunately, she couldn’t handle it.

The Boy Who Lived, and Touched Our Hearts

“I’m Harry. Harry Potter.” These are the words that started the most well-loved and treasured adventure of the twentieth and twenty-first century. The story of the young wizard named Harry is considered to be a classic, despite it being only fourteen years old. I chose Harry as my favorite literary character because he’s brave, adventurous, compassionate, and bold. Although he is not a real person, he is an undeniable inspiration. He manages to defeat the so-called “Dark Lord,” all the while battling the demons of his past that insist upon haunting him. Not to mention his massive load of homework from the Wizarding School known as Hogwarts. Even though he has help from other characters such as Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Dumbledore and Sirius Black, he still practically raised himself after the cold-blooded murder of his parents, Lily and James, when he was only a year old. He was orphaned at such a young age, and I find him even more relatable because he was like every other child going through a hard time. Though I’ll admit, I don’t think anyone’s struggle could compare to his.  I like to believe that I am like Harry in some ways. I am unwaveringly loyal to my friends, and will try my best to protect them from anything that threatens them, physically or emotionally. I am also quite bold, though not quite as much as him. I definitely would not have the guts to yell at a teacher straight on in the middle of a lesson, like he did with Professor Umbridge.  After all, we’re not all the Chosen Ones. His story touched my heart, and made my pulse race in anticipation every time I opened the books.  He is truly my absolute favorite literary character.

Lena: the Girl who was infected with Love

    Delirium by Lauren Oliver perfectly illustrates the idea of forbidden love and the way this one rule-abiding citizen, Lena Haloway will do whatever it takes to be with the one she loves even if it means being diagnosed with “amor deliria nervosa.” There are three ways in which I admire Lena Haloway, the first being that she has the bravery to stand up for what she believes in, even if it means a certain death. Second being that she has a great deal of perseverance, she won’t give up on trying to find her mother. Third being that she is willing to be ridiculed, persecuted, and threatened for the one she loves. I feel like I am not like Lena in some ways, but alike in others. I am the type of girl who is easy going and naïve. I’m easily persuaded and not brave enough to stand up to authority. On the other hand, I will question whether something is right or wrong. I will do whatever it takes to be there for my friends. Lena really touched my emotions when she began falling in love with Alex. Their relationship would make anyone appreciate more the fact that we can choose who we love, and that it is not decided for us. Lena made me think in a new, innovative, interesting way I have never thought before. She made me question society, family, and the government. She also gave me a new perspective on how bad society could be for us on a daily basis. Lena gave me a new appreciation for where I live today. This book was a glimpse into a world with no feeling and certainly no love.

The One and Only Unique Katniss Everdeen

        You know how after you read your favorite book, you wish you were like that character? Well I do, and it is Katniss from “ The Hunger Games “  trilogy. I’m sure your familar with her because they recently last year made the movie about the book. Katniss Everdeen is a girl from sector 12 that is growing up poor but has care for others before herself, responsibility, and love for her sister. She lost her dad in a mine explosion that killed him and a hundred others. Katniss’ mom is still depressed from the death of her husband and her sister Primrose Everdeen is very shy and young. Primrose loves Katniss because not only is she her sister but Katniss makes sure her sister has everything she needs and wants. The responsibilty and care she has for Primrose is very sweet and puts an impact on my emotions toward Katniss. Every year there is a male and female chosen by Effie Trinkcet to support their sector the annual Hunger Games no matter how old you are. Peeta Melark is chosen as male tribute and Primrose Everdeen is chosen as female tribute. Katniss objects this and volunteers as tribute for her little sister. Love and sacrifice is a major role of why I chose Katniss as my favorite character and that is why I admire her.

"That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind." To me this means we are all connected in one way or another. Everything we do or say effects the people around you whether you know it or not. I also think it means that everything we do is part of God's plan Everything happens for a reason. The first thing that comes to mind is when Eddie was a little boy and he ran in front of the car to get a baseball. He caused a death and didn't even know it. Another thing that comes to mind is on Eddies birthday when he went to the horse races. He didn't know she would drive up there and get in a car accident. That is another example of God showing us how everything has a plan and a reason. It's also saying that you can also make a significant impact on someone's life and not know you did something that good.

"To me this means that all the people I've encountered and all the lives I've been a part of have affected me; as well as others. Also, to me this means that we should take every person and every event in our lives as special or important.
     "That there are no random acts." This tells me that incidents aren't truly accidents, but openings for opportunities down the road. "That we are all connected." This says that all the people I've encountered, or bumped into, have not been a meaningless greeting but another changed life.
     "That you can no more seperate one life from another than you can seperate a breeze from the wind." This sums it up, saying every life you partake in, each person you meet, and all memories you keep are all connected. No matter what you do or try to change, it's like seperating a breeze from the wind, we are all a part of each other's destinies.

            "There are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more seperate one life from another than you can seperate a breeze from the wind." To me, this quote means that every act has a consequence. Every person that you encounter in your life is there for a reason. Everything that you do will have an effect on people around you. For example, when Eddie chased the baseball into the street in front of that car, he caused a death without even knowing it. Another example is when Eddie went to the horse races on his birthday. He did not know that his wife would get in a car accident going to get him. God has a plan for each and everyone of us. Every person you have met and will meet in your life will have either a positive impact or negative impact on your life, whether you know it or not. Simple acts of kindness can change peoples lives. For example, Eddie just thinks of his job as a simple day of work. The little girl he meets in heaven teaches him a very important lesson. She tells him that his job is more than a job, it is a service. He does maintenance on rides that can be potentially dangerous. He save lives everyday at his work and doesn't even realize it. Everyone impacts everyone else's life, with or without knowing it.

     To me this statement means to that everything in our life happens for a reason.  God put each one of us on this earth to influence someone in a good way and to be influenced by someone in a way that has a positive affect on us.  God places people in our lives that affect us in a certain way, whether you realize it or not.  God is always with us and we can never hide from him.  
     Just as  you can't separate a breeze from the wind.  You cannot separate the link we have to others.  It is always there and will always be there.  Most people take life for granted. You should not do this because everyone is here for a purpose.  Even if you never figure your impact on others lives, all you can do is do your best and try to be the best Christian you can be.  God provides us with many examples of how to deal with life and how to live our life.  If we are ever feeling guilty or upset we can pray to God because he is always listening.  God sacrificed his life for ours so that we do not live sheltered from his glory.

To me, this means that everything happens for a reason. That nothing is just an accident or a cuensidence, but fate. No one can seperate one life from another because we are all connected. Even the smallest of things happen for a reason that we yet to understand. But soon will. An example from the story would be when Eddie and the other soldiers got captured. Eddie distracted the enemy guards by jugleling some rocks, which he had learn how to do so as a kid. If he had never learned how to jugle they would of probably hadn't had a chance to escape. Eddie learning how to jugle as a kid saved their lives. That proves that everything that happens, happens for a reason. God has a plan for us. We just need to make shure we make the right decisions and follow in his path.

To me this means everything is planned, nothing is at all random. Bringing up one instance from Eddie's life, his captain shot him in the leg to save his life and continuing to make sure the rest of the squad was safe on the way out of the prision camp he stepped on a land mine. Something like that couldn't just happen by chance it is entirely by design, God's design. I know this is true because I have had complete and total strangers walk up to me on the darkest days and made sure I was okay. Again that couldn't just happen by chance. I look at it like this; life is like a resturaunt kitchen, there is one chef and he knows at one point every night he is going to have to make a certain dish. It doesn't matter whats going on outside that kitchen he is going to make that dish. Not only that there are all the ingriedents to make that dish,the ingriedents are like the people who are put in our lives by God. They are all there to do something to get you to your final destination in life, Heaven. Every step you take and every stranger you pass are effected in some way by your actions whether the outcome is good or bad, you are still leaving an impact on them. No matter how much you think no one cares about you and you have the thought of suicide, stop and look around you will find someone that cares, someone that is going to try and stop you. Even when you think you are on the lowest of lows, someone even if you have never seen them before in your life will provide hope to a brighter future. In all reality we are leaves in a pond, we are all together yet we do not realise it.

That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind.”  This means to me that nothing is ever random. Everything and everyone has a purpose and a reason. Even the small things as of chasing a ball into the street, as of what Eddie did as a child, may change lives. Without ever knowing it, Eddie had caused a death, simply by getting his ball out of the road. Even the little things count. God has a plan with our lives. No one in this world could make it without someone else’s help. We all rely on each other, were all connected. Simple acts of kindness or even rudeness could change a life. Maybe someone’s having a bad day, if you simply be nice to them you could change the way they feel. People may even be rude to each other without thinking about it. Making one rude remark could change the way a person looks at himself. Everyone impacts everyone else’s life, with or without knowing it.  As students we change lives. We give teachers a purpose to teach, give principals a school to look over, we give companies a reason to make school supplies, and many more lives are impacted by us just going to school. Because of students those people have jobs that impact their family. Without their jobs they might not be able to support their family. There is a strong yet invisible connection through everyone in this world.

        All things are connected. For example; an elderly gentlemen walks down the street, aggravated from a long day at work. He looked upon a little girl, hand in hand with her mother, and as their glances met the girl smiled at him. The elderly man smiled back, thoroughly enthused by the girls happiness. Once the man had passed, the girl glanced back and him. During the process the girl stumbled on a crack in the sidewalk, falling out of her mother's grip and scraping her knee. The mother grabbed the girl and ran into the nearest store to purchase a bandage. They tipped the cashier when he was done ringing the bandage up. Meanwhile, at the elderly man's home, he was embracing his wife as he walked in the door, her eyes brightened with the random affection due to the mans happiness.

        All things are connected. The man caused the girl to trip, which without the trip, her mother would not have gone into the store. Little known to either, the man they tipped as the mother and daughter left the store, would not have had money for dinner that night without their tip; and if the elderly man wouldn't have been in a good mood the next morning, he would have not worked as hard as he did the next day doing his job, which would have in turn, caused him to be fired.

        All things are connected. Everyone's actions fall into place with other people's lives. Your actions effect everyone you know and everyone they know, which creates the cycle that rules the world.

An example from the novel that comes immediately to my mind is when Eddie, as a little boy, almost gets hit by a car. Without his knowledge he causes the death of a stranger. At that moment their lives became connected. Eddie’s job was to fix the carnival rides each day and, in a way, that gave people joy. His life, like all of ours, affected other people everyday. This quote really rang true to me because I have seen this happen when my brother was diagnosed with cancer. Countless people came together to help out my family while we were going through such an immensely hard time. My brother showed an amazing amount of character through his illness and even shared his story at many different events. We learned that people were touched by his situation and were praying for him as far away as England and Afghanistan. That experience really made me realize that no one can live a life without playing a role in someone else’s.

This means that everything happens for a reason, whether good,bad,happy, or sad. It is all part of God's great plan for us on Earth.We are all connected in life, like an enormous puzzle that makes a wonderful picture. Losing one life would change the picture, if it were not for God replacing that life with a new one,so the puzzle is once whole again. To separate one life from another, is impossible. You could move them 200 miles apart,but what one does affects the other.

Every random act of kindness you do is not really that random. You might think its random but it's not. God put that opportunity there so you would have a chance to do it. We are all connected, and  we are all family. If you get hurt other people are hurting because they see you hurting. Why? Because  we all care about each, love each other, and look out for our family. You can't take a person away from somone else. Just like you can't take a breeze from the wind. You might can take a person from someone where they can't see them but they will always still be with them.God puts people in your life for a reason. You should never take that for granted, and always be thankful for what he does.
