Who Says You Can't Go Home?

My home provides me with a sense of peace and security in the same way that Wang Lung finds strength in his land. Whenever I stray far from home, I am overcome with emptiness. All I have to do to cheer myself up is sit on my backporch and savor the unchanging pleasure I get from relaxing.

Much like Wang Lung, if I am away from home for too long, I do not feel like myself. If I go away on vacation, when I return, a sense of warmth and peace radiates from my being. When I think of home, memories surge forth; times of family and happiness, as well as times of despair. Whenever I am at home, I can escape from it all; school pressures, social pressures, and even the crazy world all around me. Everything disappears when I am at my residence.

In similar ways, Wang Lung and I seek peace and comfort in our property. Maybe our home gives us a sense of belonging and that is what call us home. But, whatever the future holds in store for me, I hope that I will always be able to come home.

  1. When it comes to my home I feel very similar to the way you feel. When I am gone too long from my home I begin to miss it and long for it again. It is my place I can just be me and relax.

  3. I agree, Emily! Home is something that we can rely on to give us a sense of comfort and security. I hope that I will always be able to count on my home being there when I need it in the future, too.
