What is love, exactly?

Anyone can love. Even a cold-hearted person can experience the mind-boggling experience of loving someone or something. I believe that love can't be stopped. Even if you have nothing in common with someone, you can still begin love them, even if it isn't in a romantic way. Even though a sibling may annoy you, you can't deny that they are a very significant part of your life. Merriam Webster's dictionary defines love as "1 a (1) : strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties (3) : affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests 2 : warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion".
These are all good descriptions of love, although they don't specify that love has traits or guidelines. They simply define love as an emotion or feeling. One of the best and most clear and complete descriptions of love is 1 Corinthians 13:3-8. These verses not only show how we should love and treat those that we love, but it also shows how important love is. The beginning of verse 8 really sticks out to me: "Love never fails".
It is so reassuring to know that love NEVER fails! That means that when someone has a real love for you, they still love you when you mess up, make a fool out of yourself, are having a bad hair day, or even when you hurt them. Everything always seems to be so inconsistent and unstable, but believing and trusting in those words and knowing you are loved makes it better. My life would be pointless and miserable if there wasn't a spark of love in it.

  1. Wow, you are an amazing writer! I definitely agree that love has no guidelines and you absolutely cannot stop love. Even if you love a murderer, it does not matter. Its just an uncontrolable emotion!
