A hero by definition is a person of distinguished courage or ability and is admired for his or her brave deeds and noble qualities. That definition pretty much sums up what a real hero is. Now, as kids, I’m sure we have all admired superheroes as real heroes. Superheroes as seen on TV have amazing abilities such as flying or super strength. That, however, is not what makes a real hero. Real heroes are ordinary people like you and me. Real heroes may not be able to fly or lift extremely heavy things, but they are courageous, noble, and brave. For example, firefighters, policemen, and doctors are heroes. These are ordinary people who do their job every day making a difference for good through their work. Firemen risk their lives to save people from disasters such as fires. Policemen enforce the law making the world a safer place. Doctors save lives and help people stay healthy. So you see, real heroes are all around us and have a great effect on our lives. When you stop and think about who is a real hero to you, remember real heroes are not just guys in tights. Heroes are real people who do good acts in the real world.
