My own hero.

A hero is someone who has certain characteristics about himself that make him special. A characteristic a hero could have could be his courageousness, strength, cleverness, wit, or intelligence. As I was reading the other blog posts,  I noticed that many of them where about parents, policemen, soldiers, firefighters, etc. While all those posts were very beautiful, I realized that many of the posts were missing the hero we look at in the mirror everyday. I am my own hero. I know that many of you are going to be surprised  annoyed and maybe even slightly angered by my decision to choose myself as my own hero, but in all actuality I am just being honest with myself. The society we live in today is a very real and very scary battlefield. Every day I am faced with challenges. I have to defend myself from the words that cut like knives from my peers, the television that throws fierce jabs of  the networks and their definition of 'perfection' and 'normal', the magazines and billboards that trying to sway me like the gods in ancient Greece and are constantly advertising and encouraging sex, drugs, and alcohol. Everyday I have to make challenging decisions of whether or not to give into these things. I am so very proud of myself for not giving into these things. I have worked very hard to get to where I am today, and I am so grateful for all of the opportunities that have come  my way. So the question is now, who is your hero?
