The Connection of Every Soul

"That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind."

This idea stated in Mitch Albom's The Five People You Meet in Heaven has a great and beautiful meaning. This quote creates a complex idea that no matter what you do, no matter how small or insignificant you think your life or actions may be, you are always affecting another's life. The simplest of actions can have an enormous impact on someone else. An example of this would be how the protagonist in Albom's masterpiece, Eddie, missed the baseball that had just been thrown to him and mindlessly runs out into the road to retrieve it. Eddie was completely oblivious to exactly what he had just caused and continued to play ball without a care in the world. Take this story from another angle, however, and you see that the boy's actions caused the Blue Man to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting the young boy with his car. The adrenaline from this close call caused the man's heart to fail him, provoking his ultimate demise.
There are people in your life that will cause change and important moments to happen without you even realizing what they've done. Life is mysterious and confusing and at some points, completely overwhelming. The people that come into your life are there for a reason, whether you know why or not. Everyone being linked together shows how we need to watch what we say and do because you never know how your words and actions will be taken by someone else.
Thinking about this quote makes you wonder who's life you've impacted and if you've made a positive or a negative difference in that person's life. To me, this idea is one that everyone should think long and hard about at some point. Promoting positivity should be encouraged and before we can change someone else, we have to change ourselves. Every person is capable of changing and saving lives, but at the same time, we are also capable of tearing others down. It all depends on your outlook on life and how you treat certain situations. We absentmindedly impact others on a daily basis, not knowing if one day we will be one of the five people they meet in heaven.
