“That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind.”
This quote means that all lives are connected. Every decision you make could have a huge impact on someone else's life.
A lot of people make decisions without thinking about how they may affect others. For example, someone might decide to drink and drive, which could cause a fatality affecting not only the victim's family, but also the driver's.
In the book, The Five People You Meet In Heaven, Eddie receives a baseball for his birthday. He and his brother, Joe, are playing with it when Eddie throws it too hard and Joe can't catch it. Eddie runs after the ball and into the road right as a car passes. The driver swerves to miss Eddie. The driver, the Blue Man, has a weak heart due to silver nitrate and the adrenaline causes him to drop his head momentarily and collide with the bumper of another vehicle. His forehead begins bleeding as he steps out of the car to examine the damage. He slumps to the ground and his heart fails. The Blue Man died because of Eddie's careless actions.
This story makes me think of how my actions and words can affect other people's lives. People never seem to realize how involved they are with the lives around them. If my words and actions are negative, the effect on other people will also be negative. On the other hand, my positive words and actions will benefit others. We should choose our words and deeds wisely because every life is connected.
