All Tied Up in Knots

“That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind.”
I have been thinking long and hard about this quote, and I have come to the conclusion that the quote just simply means that everything happens for a reason. Nothing is coincidental. We are all connected to people, even if we do or don’t know them. Our actions ties us together. We are all just tied up in one big knot that we can’t get out of, even if we try.
In the book, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Eddie, the main character, meets the Blue Man. The Blue man was killed because of Eddie’s actions while trying to chase after his ball. The Blue man could have hit Eddie and killed him, but because God did not see fit for Eddie to leave the Earth yet, his life was spared by a single swerve of a car. Eddie was safe, while God decided that it was the Blue man’s time to depart from the Earth. The Blue man teaches Eddie, ”That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind”, which basically means that we are all tied up in knots, and nobody can untie the knot.
The third person Eddie meets is a lady named Ruby. Eddie has never met, spoken, or even seen the lady, but some kind of way she is the third person that somehow is connected to Eddie. Eddie later on finds out that she was the wife of the original owner to the pier, where Eddie worked at for most of his life and then ended up tragically dying there. “That there are no random acts. That we are all connected.” Even though Eddie has never met or seen Ruby, she impacted his life. All Ruby’s actions change Eddie’s way of life. Without Ruby, the Ruby pier, where Eddie worked would not be in existence. Eddie’s father and Eddie would not have worked there, and their lives would have drastically changed.
You may not know it, but everything action you make, whether good or bad, affects people every day. Maybe you told that lie, and stolen that candy cane, and you think it won’t affect anybody else. Well, you are wrong, because we are all connected. Everything happens for a reason. No matter the things you do, things you say, or where you go, people are connected to you no matter what.
