In the book, Five People You Meet in Heaven, Eddie meets the Blue Man. The Blue Man says, "That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind." What the Blue Man means is that every life is connected and every action is tied to everyone. Even though each person is unique in beliefs, personality, and opinions, we all are linked to each other one way or another at one point.
As a young child, Eddie, plays ball in the street. The ball rolls out onto the road and is almost ran over by a car. Eddie goes back to his game and goes back to his life. However, from the point of view of the driver; he is driving in his car when suddenly a small child runs out and he must slam on his brakes. This makes the driver have a heart attack and he dies that day. Eddie running onto the road costed another mans life. Just like how he saved the little girls life at the pier not knowing that his fate was death later on.
If we take this idea into consideration, this means that no life is meaningless and we all effect each and everyone of us. That there's no such thing as a coincidence. The effect of life on others is enormous and should be taken into careful thought.
