Everything
you do, say, or think can affect any person in the world. The quote, “That
there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more
separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind”,
from The Five People You Meet in Heaven
means that all lives are connected. Each person’s actions have consequences,
whether they are small or large, and people will affect other people they may
never come to know.
In the book
“The Five People You Meet in Heaven”,
Eddie describes a story where a boy lost his car key while on a carnival ride
because he put it in his jacket pocket. That boy did not know that this careless
action would later have a big impact on other people. It states in the story,
“The pulley was wedged by a small object that must have fallen through the
opening at a most precise moment. A car key.” Ironically, this key became
wedged in the pulley, saving the riders from plummeting to the ground. The boy most
likely had no idea he would save four people from death. The boy may have never
even seen those people, but made a significant impact on their life.
Another
example of how one’s actions can affect others is how Eddie ran in front of the
Blue Man’s car to chase a baseball without even realizing potential
consequences. According to the story, “Eddie, wearing tawny pants and a wool
cap, chases after it, and runs in front of an automobile, a Ford Model A. The
car screeches, veers, and just misses him.” As a result of this action, Eddie
caused the death of the Blue Man and did not know it. Through Eddie’s innocent
mistake, he made another person pay the price. Eddie and the Blue Man were
meant to cross paths.
In
conclusion, no individual’s life is separate, and there are no random acts. We
are all connected somehow, and we impact people around us every day. If we
crash into someone, there must be a reason. Even if you make that person mad, you
may learn a lesson and become more aware of your surroundings, which could help
you in the long run. It only takes a single moment for any life to
be completely changed.
