Interconnected

As a millennial, I can honestly state that my generation is bombarded with technology. On one hand, modern technology is enticing and convenient. On the other hand, it has contributed greatly to distracting us from having face to face interactions which connect us in much healthier ways. In the novel, The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom, the Blue Man explains, "That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind." From the quote, I interpret that the Blue Man was reminding us of how vital our communications, actions and reactions to each other are in terms of our social health. That a stranger could have a momentous impact on another stranger’s life without attempting to do so. In the same way that the Blue Man reacted when he was startled by Eddie retrieving the ball.

As humans all cohabiting this world, we cannot modify this inability to separate the actions of every individual from one another. Whether it is causing the downfall of our face to face communication skills or causing the collision of a vehicle , separating actions of one human to another is impossible. How impossible this act would be, as the quote puts it, “That we can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind.” Obviously, a breeze is due to the wind. A breeze is the wind. Just as people live their lives reacting to the actions of other individuals and communicating to them as well. I also interpret the portion of the quote that states, “That there are no random acts”, as demonstrating that everything happens for a reason. Every action or reaction that occurs is a result of a previous action or reaction. Everyone on this Earth is connected because we all interact with one another no matter how introverted or extroverted our personalities may be. In conclusion, I also gather that not only the fact that everything we act upon and communicate is interconnected, but that we should be aware of the underlying desire to be present and mindful of our own actions and reactions to our daily experiences.
