As humans we are all connected. The
different types of people we meet everyday can influence our lives without even
knowing it. These connections with others can simply make us who we are today. We
cross paths with people to be taught life lessons, to gain knowledge, and to
help others; each choice we make affects others even though if we don’t realize
it. We may have different paths, lifestyles, and opinions but we are all
connected at one point.
In
the novel, “The Five People You Meet in Heaven”, the main character Eddie dies
and is sent to heaven and encounters five people who had a significant impact
upon him when he was alive. The first person Eddie meets in heaven, Joseph
Corvelzchik, known as the Blue man in the novel states to him “That there are
no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one
life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind.” The way I see
it, it clearly means that every person we meet, every action we make will
somehow affect another ones’ life. Everything happens for a reason and the
cause and effect of what happens is associated to everyone and not just
yourself. Such as when Eddie as a child, running across the street to get a baseball
not knowing that that the driver of the vehicle had a heart attack thinking of
how close he came to tragedy or when Eddie decides to push the little girl to
save her life and not knowing it will end his; these choices affects one not
only his life but others too.
As humans, we
may encounter events where we have affected someone or someone’s way of
life. When we go through the journey of life, we meet certain people for a
reason; each one of them may be special. We must remember that there is no such
thing as coincidences, all our lives intersect somehow. That there are no
random acts, that we are all connected. A stranger who becomes someone in our
lives came for a purpose. We need to learn how to manage every last action like
it’s the last we could perform. No matter how small or big the choices and actions
we do, it may have a massive effect on someone else’s.
