It Happens for a Reason
There
is a reason behind everything that happens, nothing happens randomly, and everyone
is connected in some way. I believe that’s what the quote, “That there are no
random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life
from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind,” said by the
character the Blue Man in the book The Five People You Meet in Heaven,
means to me. This book, by Mitch Albom, is about an old man, Eddie, whom died
and met five people in Heaven. These five people helped him find peace and
forgiveness in his past life. One of the five people Eddie met was Joseph, known
as the Blue Man.
“That there
are no random acts,” the Blue Man said. He said that to explain that everything
happens for a reason. For example, when we bump into a stranger, it’s not
random, because as an effect we will become more aware of where we are walking,
or maybe the stranger you bumped into will get to know you and you will become
friends. Either way, you were meant to bump into that stranger.
“That we are
all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can
separate a breeze from the wind,” the Blue Man said. In these sentences, he
meant that everyone you meet is in your life for a reason. You may think that
what you do, may only affect the people you know, but it affects others, too. In
the book, the Blue Man was driving and a little boy ran out in front of him to
catch a ball. To not hit the boy, the Man swerved and drove down an alley,
hitting a parked truck. The little boy, who was Eddie as a child, retrieved his
ball, but the Blue Man died of a heart attack. This connected Eddie and the
Blue Man. The two may not have known each other, but according to the Blue Man,
“Strangers…are just family you have yet to come to know.” When we meet a
stranger, we become connected.
