In the novel, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, the main
character, Eddie, meets five people who each teach Eddie a very important
lesson. The first person Eddie meets is Joseph Corvelzchik, or the blue man. One
of the things he told Eddie was, “That there are no random acts. That we are
all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can
separate a breeze from the wind.” This means that everything happens for a reason
even if you don’t know it. Something with a small impact on you can have a big
impact on someone else.
Eddie finds out that he accidentally kills the blue man during their time
together. Eddie jumps in front of the blue man’s car to get his ball, but Eddie
didn’t think he did any harm. The blue man had a heart attack from Eddie
jumping in front of his car causing him to die. It could have been the other
way around and Eddie could have been hit, but God chose for Eddie to live. If Eddie
would have died, he couldn’t have had a chance to save the little girl from
Ruby Pier. This shows the connection of life Eddie had with people.
Anyone can be connected with
someone throughout their lifetime without knowing it. Someone can be doing the
right things, but can still have a negative effect on someone else. Eddie was
doing the right thing by trying to save the girl at the pier, but ended up
killing himself in the process. Eddie had many unexpected connections in his
life, but there are many people in the world just like him.
