Chain Reaction

The quote, "That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind" to me, means that we are all part of this massive chain reaction. What we do and don't do will always have an impact on others. This includes the slightest actions (e.g. smiling at a stranger as you walk by, or giving a compliment such as "Wow you look great today, Mrs. Dupuy!") Doing these things, even though they are small, could very well make a person’s day. Think about how many times someone’s done a nice gesture for you and how great it made you feel. It works the same when done the other way around: You do something nice for another person, and that person feels happier; a random guy/girl does something nice for you, and you feel happier.

You may have noticed both of my examples are positive. While those kinds of actions have impacts, so do negative actions. For example, slamming a door in someone’s face may result in them going deeper into depression, or chewing with your mouth open may result in someone losing their appetite. Even little things can have huge outcomes. Likewise, littering could cause a Waste Management worker to spend that much longer away from his/her family to clean up your mess. This quote sums it all up: “People need to realize you’re always affecting people, 24/7, in a negative way or a positive way” –Shane Harper.
