There Is No Such Thing As a Coincidence

There is no such thing as coincidence. Nothing happens by chance. If something happens to you, then something will happen to someone, or something, else. In Heaven, the Blue Man tells Eddie, “That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate the breeze from the wind.” (Albom 48)The smallest things can cause the biggest accidents. For example, had Eddie not been at the fun fair, his wife would not have had to drive out to the fun fair. Had she not had to drive to the fun fair, the bottle of Old Harper’s Whiskey would have never have been dropped onto her car. Had the bottle of Old Harper’s Whiskey not been dropped onto her car, Marguerite would have never gotten into the car accident. These things usually happen in a chain of events. This is what happened to the Blue Man, to Marguerite, and to Eddie’s father.

To me this quote means that everything and everyone has their life story written out for them, but no one knows what is written in their book. You may think that you have a choice between one thing and another, but you really don’t. Since your life goes along with your life story, you were guaranteed to pick that choice over the other one. You may be in poverty, you may be the worst baseball player in the world, or you may be that one person who nobody notices. You don’t have a choice. How your life goes is how your story is written. You can’t do anything to stop it and one day you’ll die in the end. Do you want to know why they teach you about other Gods other than the one true God? It is so another person can teach about why there is only one true God. One thing happens so another thing happens. Everything happens because of an action by another individual. Nothing happens by chance. If it’s not written in your story, it won’t happen, and you can't change your story.
