Life. We know it as we see it. We believe that mistakes we make and risk we take only effect oneself. Eddie , the main character in The Five People You Meet in Heaven ,was the cause for many different events in different people's life. While saving a little girl at an amusement park, Eddie is killed and travels to Heaven. In Heaven, Eddie learns he will meet five people who have impacted or have been impacted by Eddie's life. The first person Eddie meets is the Blue Man from his childhood. The Blue Man tells Eddie that his death was caused by Eddie running in front of his vehicle to retrieve a baseball. Eddie, unknowing of his mistake at the time, begins to blame himself for the Blue Man's death. The Blue Man begins to explain this quote to Eddie, "There are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can seperate a breeze from the wind." This quote not only explains life to Eddie but explains life to the reader as well.
To me, this quote means that everything happens for a reason and everything is like one big chain reaction. A mistake a person makes right here in Louisiana can effect someone in Florida or California or even Hawaii. Whether positive or negative , every act or situation can and will effect someone whether you know them or not. This quote applies to everyday life and everybody in existence. Every mistake you make and every risk you take with effect someone in someway. It is inevitable. This quote has changed the way I see life. In the future , I know that things I do will effect someone else and I will think of the negative effects before I do something that benefits myself. This book has led me to truly believe that God has a plan for each and every one of us and he will do what he feels is right. In the end, when we look back on our lives, we will not only see memories we created for ourselves , we will also see futures we created for those around us because in some way everyone is connected.
