"That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate a life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind." To me, this means that everything occurs for a reason. In The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Eddie killed The Blue Man unknowingly. However unfortunate, this occurred for a reason. The Blue Man would wait for Eddie and explain why everything happened so far. The Captain shot Eddie's leg for a reason too. He shot Eddie's leg so that Eddie would not go into the house set on fire and be left behind. Tala ended up getting burned alive because of that. Gruesome as it sounds, this transpired for a reason too. With Tala dead, and now in heaven, she was able to be Eddie's hindmost person he encounters in heaven. Eddie would not have known if Amy/Annie survived or that his life was not a waste without Tala dying and being his fifth person. Each action someone makes can affect you whether it is big or small. As the final quote states, "... that each affects the other and the other affects the next, and the world is full of stories, but the stories are all one." That's the reason why he meets the strange cast of characters, even though Eddie was not intertwined with some of them.
